Two Miniatures for Clarinet and Piano
Two Miniatures for Clarinet and Pianobegan its life as an example for my theory class of the difference between Anton Webern and Alban Berg’s style of 12-tone writing. I liked the pieces somuch I decided to make them available for performance. The first movement emphasizes Webern’s careful avoidance of anything that could be construed as tonal. The second follows Berg’s practice of intentionally building in tonal allusions. In this case, the minor-major 7th chord (used in theJames Bond film scores of John Barry).
This 1 ½ minute piece is ideal for high school or college players.
